Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Sustainable Urban Planning Specialist to lead the development and execution of urban planning strategies in Douala. This role will focus on creating livable, eco-friendly, and economically vibrant cities through data-driven decision-making and stakeholder collaboration. The ideal candidate will contribute to projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement urban planning frameworks that integrate environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic viability.
- Conduct spatial analysis and feasibility studies for infrastructure projects, including transportation networks and green spaces.
- Collaborate with municipal authorities, NGOs, and private sector partners to align urban development plans with national and international policies.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of urban projects on communities and ecosystems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and policy recommendations for stakeholders and funding bodies.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in urban planning, with a focus on sustainability and climate resilience.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping software and urban modeling tools (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to engage diverse stakeholders, including local communities and policymakers.
- Fluency in English and French, with knowledge of local languages (e.g., Pidgin, Ewondo) preferred.
Education
- Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Certifications in sustainable design (e.g., LEED, Green Building) are a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in urban planning, preferably in African urban contexts.
- Experience managing cross-sectoral projects with government and community partners.
Salary
1,500,000 – 2,500,000 XAF per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
