Job Overview

The Hydroelectric Plant Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability and safety of the hydroelectric power plant located near Maroua. Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, the engineer will lead maintenance planning, execute corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for turbines, generators, control systems and auxiliary equipment.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and coordinate timely corrective actions.
• Monitor plant performance metrics, generate reports and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with local safety regulations, international standards and TotalEnergies environmental policies.
• Lead a multidisciplinary maintenance team, providing technical guidance and on‑site training.
• Collaborate with procurement to source spare parts and manage inventory levels.
• Participate in the commissioning of new hydro units and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the company’s asset management system.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of hydroelectric turbine mechanics, electrical generators and SCADA systems.
• Proficiency in predictive maintenance tools such as vibration analysis, thermography and oil analysis.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven approach to decision making.
• Effective communication skills in French and English, both written and verbal.
• Leadership experience managing technical teams in a high‑availability environment.
• Ability to work in remote locations and adapt to challenging field conditions.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CEM, PMP) are considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in the operation and maintenance of hydroelectric power plants or comparable large‑scale renewable energy facilities. Experience with international standards such as ISO 55000 and IEC 61850 is highly desirable.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from 1,200,000 to 2,000,000 SSP, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
