Job Description

Job Overview

The Local Security Associate supports the implementation of safety and security operations for UN personnel under the supervision of the Security Adviser (SA) or Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO). The role focuses on security coordination, information management, compliance monitoring, and administrative support to ensure a safe operating environment.


Key Responsibilities

1. Security Information & Knowledge Management

  • Collect, verify, and update security-related information across the country.
  • Liaise with government security agencies, military, police, and NGOs.
  • Assist in analyzing the security situation and reporting findings.
  • Prepare security reports (incident reports, assessments, quarterly updates).
  • Maintain communication with UN agency Security Focal Points.

2. UN Security Coordination

  • Support development, implementation, and updating of the UN Security Plan.
  • Maintain staff security lists and emergency contact databases.
  • Monitor compliance with Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS).
  • Assist in organizing security training and staff briefings.
  • Provide technical support during Security Management Team (SMT) meetings.

3. Operational Security Support

  • Conduct security assessments for UN staff residences and offices.
  • Maintain warden systems and emergency communication structures.
  • Administer identification and access control systems.
  • Coordinate with private security companies for guarding services.
  • Track and analyze emerging threats and risks.

4. Administrative Support

  • Maintain confidential records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Manage databases related to security contacts and operations.
  • Support logistical and administrative tasks for security operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in security, administration, or related field
  • Prior work with UN agencies or international NGOs is desirable
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder engagement skills

Language Requirements

  • Fluent French (mandatory)
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an asset
