Job Overview
The Banking Compliance Officer will lead the implementation and monitoring of regulatory frameworks, internal policies, and risk mitigation strategies within the Bamenda branch. This role ensures that all banking activities comply with the Central Bank of Central African States (BEAC) regulations, anti‑money laundering (AML) statutes, and international standards such as FATF. Working closely with senior management, legal counsel, and audit teams, the officer will conduct risk assessments, develop compliance training programs, and act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, update, and enforce compliance policies aligned with local and international regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and compliance reviews of banking products, services, and operations.
- Monitor transactions for suspicious activity, file SARs, and coordinate AML investigations.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and best practices.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports to BEAC, Financial Intelligence Unit, and other supervisory bodies.
- Collaborate with internal audit and legal teams to address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of evolving regulatory landscape and assess impact on bank operations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact during regulatory examinations and inspections.
Required Skills
- In‑depth understanding of banking regulations, AML/CFT, KYC, and data privacy laws.
- Strong analytical and investigative abilities with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for drafting policies, reports, and delivering training.
- Proficiency in compliance management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and influence cross‑functional teams.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree, professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), or equivalent, will be given preference.
Experience
At least five years of hands‑on experience in banking compliance, risk management, or regulatory affairs within a financial institution is essential. Prior exposure to the Central African banking environment, familiarity with BEAC directives, and experience handling regulatory examinations are highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from 800,000 to 1,200,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and annual salary reviews are part of the remuneration structure.
