Job Overview

The Network Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and expanding MTN’s radio access network (RAN) across the Kousseri region and neighboring territories. This position involves detailed analysis of traffic patterns, capacity forecasting, and the development of strategic rollout plans for 4G LTE and upcoming 5G deployments. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive radio frequency (RF) planning and drive site acquisition for new base stations.
  • Perform capacity and coverage analysis using industry‑standard tools such as Atoll, Planet, or Mentum.
  • Develop detailed network rollout plans, including budget estimates, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with the RF Optimization team to fine‑tune parameters post‑deployment for optimal Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and presentations for senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with Cameroonian telecommunications regulations and MTN’s internal standards.
  • Participate in cross‑functional project meetings, providing technical input and risk assessments.
  • Support the integration of emerging technologies, such as Massive MIMO and network slicing, into the existing architecture.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of LTE and 5G NR architecture, protocols, and planning methodologies.
  • Proficiency with RF planning software (e.g., Atoll, Planet, Mentum) and GIS tools.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret large data sets and translate them into actionable network designs.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report writing.
  • Project management capabilities, including timeline and budget tracking.
  • Familiarity with Cameroonian spectrum allocation and regulatory frameworks.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or certifications from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are considered a plus.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five to seven years of hands‑on experience in network planning, RF engineering, or a similar role within a telecom operator or a major consulting firm. Experience with both 4G LTE and early‑stage 5G deployments is highly desirable.
