Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, capacity, and reliability of MTN Cameroon’s radio access network (RAN). Reporting to the Head of Network Engineering, the incumbent will analyze network data, design optimization strategies, and implement solutions that improve coverage, throughput, and quality of service across the country. Key Responsibilities

• Analyze network performance metrics using OSS/BSS tools to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
• Develop and implement optimization plans for LTE and emerging 5G sites, focusing on coverage, capacity, and interference mitigation.
• Collaborate with radio frequency (RF) engineers, drive test teams, and vendor partners to validate optimization actions.
• Perform drive‑test data collection, post‑processing, and reporting to assess the impact of optimization activities.
• Maintain and update network documentation, including parameter settings, configuration changes, and optimization reports.
• Participate in network expansion projects, providing optimization input during site acquisition, design, and rollout phases.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate regular performance dashboards for senior management.
• Ensure compliance with national telecommunications regulations and MTN’s internal quality standards.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, or similar).
• In‑depth knowledge of LTE and 5G NR technologies, RF principles, and network planning concepts.
• Experience with network optimization tools such as Atoll, Mentum Planet, or similar.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Effective communication skills to convey technical findings to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in network optimization, RF engineering, or relevant vendor training (e.g., Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei) are considered a strong advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in mobile network optimization, preferably within a large‑scale operator environment. Experience with 4G LTE optimization and exposure to 5G rollout projects is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from 1,200,000 to 2,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and comprehensive benefits.
