Job Overview

INTERSOS is seeking a qualified and experienced MHPSS Project Manager to oversee Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities in Cameroon. The role focuses on supporting victims and communities affected by violence and conflict through quality mental health interventions, psychosocial care, staff supervision, and project coordination.

The successful candidate will manage project implementation, supervise mental health teams, coordinate with local partners, and ensure effective delivery of psychosocial support services in line with humanitarian standards.


Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate MHPSS project activities
  • Ensure timely and quality implementation of services
  • Conduct regular field visits and monitor program progress
  • Coordinate with local partners, NGOs, UN agencies, and government authorities
  • Supervise project resources, logistics, and financial management
  • Monitor risks and ensure compliance with humanitarian standards

Supervision & Capacity Building

  • Train community workers, health staff, and protection teams on mental health support
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychologists, counsellors, and psychosocial staff
  • Organize MHGap training and psychosocial awareness activities
  • Support referral systems for beneficiaries requiring specialized mental healthcare
  • Facilitate case discussions, multidisciplinary meetings, and staff mentoring

Mental Health & Psychosocial Support

  • Supervise counselling, psychoeducation, and psychosocial support activities
  • Adapt MHPSS tools and protocols to local cultural contexts
  • Organize community awareness activities and radio programs
  • Ensure continuity of care and follow-up for beneficiaries
  • Promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma in communities

Networking & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain referral pathways with health, education, and social services
  • Build networks with NGOs, community groups, and humanitarian actors
  • Participate in technical coordination meetings and working groups

Data Collection & Reporting

  • Monitor and evaluate MHPSS activities and indicators
  • Maintain databases and patient records
  • Prepare monthly narrative and statistical reports
  • Analyze data to improve program quality and effectiveness

Educational Qualifications

  • Licensed Clinical Psychologist qualification required
  • Mandatory MHGap training certification
  • PM+ intervention training required
  • Knowledge of WHO and IASC mental health guidelines preferred

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of field experience as a psychologist or in a clinical setting
  • Experience supervising staff and managing teams preferred
  • Experience working with NGOs or humanitarian organizations advantageous
  • Experience in developing countries preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of therapeutic techniques
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work in conflict-affected and high-pressure environments
  • Computer literacy including:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Excel
    • Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and reporting skills

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • French language proficiency required
