In Fotokol, we collaborate with indigenous groups to preserve the unique biodiversity of the Adamawa Plateau, a critical habitat for endangered species like the African forest elephant and drill monkey.

Job Overview

This role is part of our Cameroon Biodiversity Initiative, a 5-year project funded by the European Union to restore degraded ecosystems and combat illegal wildlife trade. The position requires fieldwork in remote areas, data collection, and stakeholder engagement with local communities and government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct biodiversity surveys and ecological monitoring in Fotokol’s protected areas
  • Develop and implement conservation action plans for priority species
  • Coordinate with local communities to establish community-led conservation programs
  • Collaborate with law enforcement to combat wildlife trafficking
  • Prepare scientific reports and presentations for donors and stakeholders

Required Skills

  • Expertise in species identification and habitat assessment
  • Proficiency in GIS and remote sensing tools
  • Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Ability to work in remote field conditions with limited infrastructure
  • Fluency in English and French (preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
  • Master’s Degree preferred (candidates with 5+ years experience may substitute formal education)

Experience

  • 3-5 years in biodiversity conservation or environmental research
  • Proven experience in field data collection and analysis
  • Previous work in Central African ecosystems (strong advantage)

Salary

1,500,000 – 2,500,000 XAF/month (depending on experience and qualifications)
