Job Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead BASF Cameroon’s EHS strategy, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international best practices. Reporting to the Regional Director, the role involves developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs, environmental management systems, and sustainability initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain an integrated EHS management system aligned with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and environmental impact studies to identify hazards and mitigation measures.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, and supply chain teams to embed safety and environmental considerations into daily operations.
• Ensure compliance with Cameroonian environmental and occupational health regulations, as well as BASF Group policies.
• Prepare and present EHS performance reports to senior management and external stakeholders.
• Drive employee training programs on safety procedures, emergency response, and sustainable practices.
• Manage waste reduction, emissions monitoring, and resource efficiency initiatives to support BASF’s sustainability goals.
• Serve as the primary liaison with government agencies, NGOs, and community groups on EHS matters.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement through employee engagement and recognition programs.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of Cameroonian environmental and occupational health legislation.
• Proficiency in ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and related management system standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Leadership experience in driving cross‑functional safety and sustainability initiatives.
• Ability to interpret technical data and translate it into actionable plans.
• Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.

Education

A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or ISO Lead Auditor are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in environmental, health, and safety management within the chemical or manufacturing sector, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Salary
