Job Overview

The Mining Operations Engineer will be responsible for overseeing daily mining activities at the Garoua extraction site, ensuring optimal production, safety compliance, and environmental stewardship. Reporting to the Mine Manager, the engineer will coordinate with cross‑functional teams including geology, maintenance, and health & safety to implement efficient mining plans, monitor equipment performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor short‑term and long‑term mining plans to achieve production goals.
• Coordinate daily shift activities, ensuring equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
• Analyze operational data to identify bottlenecks, propose corrective actions, and improve overall mine performance.
• Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule preventive maintenance and minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with local mining regulations, environmental standards, and Glencore’s internal safety policies.
• Prepare detailed reports on production, equipment utilization, and cost metrics for senior management.
• Lead incident investigations and implement preventive measures to enhance workplace safety.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of open‑pit mining methods, equipment, and operational best practices.
• Proficiency in mining software such: Surpac, Vulcan, or MineSight.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, NEBOSH) are considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in mining operations, preferably in open‑pit environments. Prior experience with large‑scale copper or cobalt projects in Africa is highly desirable.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of 1,500,000 to 2,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the compensation package.
