Job Overview
The Data Center Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of Microsoft’s new data center facility in Maroua. This role is pivotal in ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security of the data center’s critical infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, power, and cooling systems. The manager will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, oversee operational procedures, and implement best practices aligned with Microsoft’s global standards. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the data center, ensuring 99.9% uptime and compliance with service level agreements.
- Lead a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Develop and enforce operational policies, procedures, and safety protocols in line with Microsoft’s global standards.
- Monitor and optimize power usage effectiveness (PUE) and overall energy efficiency to reduce operational costs.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, hardware upgrades, and capacity planning to support scaling needs.
- Manage incident response, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions for any service disruptions.
- Ensure robust physical and cyber security measures, including access controls, surveillance, and vulnerability assessments.
- Collaborate with regional sales and solution architects to align infrastructure capabilities with customer requirements.
- Prepare and present operational performance reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Drive sustainability initiatives, integrating renewable energy sources and green practices into data center operations.
Required Skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities with a focus on mentorship.
- Deep knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, networking, storage, power, and cooling systems.
- Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., System Center, Azure Monitor) and automation scripting (PowerShell, Python).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to make data‑driven decisions under pressure.
- Understanding of IT security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, and Microsoft’s security standards.
- Effective communication skills in English and French, both written and verbal.
- Project management experience with a track record of delivering large‑scale infrastructure projects.
- Commitment to sustainability and knowledge of energy‑efficient data center practices.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Cisco CCNP, or ITIL Foundation are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in data center operations, with at least three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory role. Experience managing multi‑site facilities or large‑scale cloud infrastructure projects is a strong advantage.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this position is 2,500,000 – 3,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
