Job Overview

The Senior Agronomy Research Manager will lead Cargill’s agronomic research programs in the northern region of Cameroon, focusing on staple crops such as millet, sorghum, and maize. Reporting to the Regional Director of R&D, you will design and execute field trials, collaborate with local research institutions, and translate scientific findings into practical recommendations for farmers. This position is central to Cargill’s mission of delivering innovative, climate‑smart solutions that boost productivity and profitability for smallholder farmers. You will also serve as a key liaison with government agencies, NGOs, and industry partners, ensuring that research outcomes align with national agricultural policies and market demands. Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and monitor multi‑site agronomic field trials across Garoua and surrounding regions.
• Analyze trial data using advanced statistical methods and generate actionable insights for farmer advisory services.
• Collaborate with local universities, research institutes, and extension services to co‑develop innovative crop management practices.
• Prepare technical reports, scientific publications, and presentation materials for internal and external audiences.

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in crop physiology, soil science, and integrated pest management.
• Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS) and data visualization tools.
• Excellent project management and leadership abilities.
• Effective communication skills in English and French, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience working with smallholder farmer groups and extension services.
• Knowledge of climate‑smart agriculture practices and sustainability frameworks.

Education

A Master’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Crop Science, or a closely related discipline is required. A Ph.D. is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage for candidates with extensive research experience.

Experience

Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in agronomic research, with at least 3 years in a managerial or team‑lead role. Prior experience in West or Central Africa, particularly in Cameroon, is strongly preferred.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this role is 2,500,000 – 3,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
