Job Overview

The Senior Hydropower Plant Operator will play a critical role in the daily operations and maintenance of our hydroelectric facilities in the Melong region. This position involves monitoring complex control systems, managing turbine operations, and ensuring that power generation meets the grid requirements safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing junior operators and ensuring that all safety protocols are strictly followed. As we expand our capacity, this role is essential for maintaining the stability of the national grid and ensuring continuous employment in Cameroon for technical specialists. You will work in a high-stakes environment where precision and technical expertise are paramount to preventing downtime and ensuring energy security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control hydroelectric turbine operations and auxiliary equipment via SCADA systems.
  • Perform routine inspections of mechanical and electrical components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Coordinate with the grid management team to adjust power output based on demand fluctuations.
  • Lead emergency response procedures during equipment failures or extreme weather events.
  • Supervise and mentor junior plant operators to ensure high standards of operational excellence.
  • Maintain detailed logs of all operational activities, maintenance schedules, and incident reports.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in operating and troubleshooting hydroelectric control systems.
  • Deep understanding of electrical synchronization and mechanical turbine mechanics.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting real-time data from monitoring sensors.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with remote control centers.
  • Strict adherence to international health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field is mandatory. Professional certification in industrial automation or power plant management is highly preferred.

Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in power plant operations, specifically within hydroelectric facilities. Proven experience in managing large-scale electrical distribution systems is essential for this role.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 450,000 SSP to 750,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s technical expertise and previous experience in the energy sector.
